Every builder says it is the best. The honest answer is that they solve different problems. This guide sorts them by type, says who each one fits, and is clear about where our own product is the wrong choice.

What a vacation rental website builder has to do
A rental site is not a normal website. It needs to:
- show a live availability calendar that matches Airbnb and Booking.com,
- show nightly prices, fees and taxes for the chosen dates,
- let a guest book or send a booking request,
- work well on a phone,
- run on your own domain with HTTPS.
Any tool that cannot do the first three is a brochure, not a direct booking site.
The three types, compared
Details below are as we found them at the time of writing (October 2026). Check each pricing page before you decide.
| Type | Examples | Pricing model | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| General website builders | Wix, Squarespace, WordPress | Monthly plan. You add booking and calendar sync yourself. | Hosts who enjoy building and want full design freedom. |
| PMS suites | Lodgify, Hospitable, Guesty | Monthly subscription that scales with plan or portfolio. Some plans add a percentage fee on direct bookings. | Managers with several properties who need a channel manager. |
| Rental site builders | CraftedStays, Direct Booking Page | Flat monthly or yearly price, no booking commission. | Hosts who want a site, not a whole new system. |
1. General website builders
Wix, Squarespace and WordPress can build any kind of site. You pay a monthly plan and get templates and full control over design. The rental parts are on you: a booking app or plugin, calendar sync with your platforms, and price rules.
Good: design freedom, room for a blog and extra pages. Less good: more setup, more parts to keep working, and the total cost depends on which add-ons you need.
2. PMS suites with a website builder
A property management system (PMS) runs your whole operation: channel manager, unified inbox, automation. Many include a website builder.
- Lodgify combines a website builder with a channel manager. It is a monthly subscription that scales with the plan. Its lower tiers have historically added a booking fee on direct reservations, so read the current terms.
- Hospitable offers direct booking sites as part of its subscription, with a percentage fee on direct bookings (1% on its Direct Basic option).
- Guesty has a website builder inside its PMS, aimed at professional managers.
Good: everything syncs in one place, and most include online checkout. Less good: you pay for a full system even if all you wanted was a website.
3. Builders made only for rental sites
These do one job: your direct booking site.
- CraftedStays starts from about $70 to $90 per month for the first two properties, with no booking commission. It connects to a PMS, so it suits hosts who already run one.
- Direct Booking Page (that is us) is $99 per year, one plan, 0% commission. One property per site. Calendar sync by iCal, or rates and availability from Hosthub or Lodgify.
What about marketplaces like Houfy?
Houfy is a listing site with 0% host commission and optional paid plans. It can be a useful extra channel. It is still a marketplace, not your own website: your property sits next to everyone else’s, on someone else’s domain.
How to choose
You have one property
Keep it simple. You do not need a channel manager for one calendar. An iCal sync and a rental-specific builder will have you live in an afternoon. Follow how to make a direct booking website for the steps. If you let a cottage in the UK, our holiday let website guide covers the same ground.
You have two to five properties
Decide whether each property should have its own branded site or whether guests should search across all of them on one site. Separate sites work with a single-property builder. A shared search needs a PMS suite or a builder that sits on top of your PMS.
You have ten or more
You need a PMS with a channel manager first. Choose the website based on what your PMS includes or connects to.
Looking for a Lodgify alternative?
It depends on what you want to replace. If you need the channel manager, compare other PMS suites. If you only use the website part, a rental site builder is cheaper and simpler. And if you want to keep Lodgify as your PMS, Direct Booking Page can read rates and availability from it and give you a separate site on your own domain.
Do the math on fees
A percentage fee on direct bookings looks small, but it grows with your revenue. A flat price does not. Whatever you choose, compare it with what the platforms take. Airbnb’s host fee is 15.5% for most hosts. See Airbnb host fees in 2026 for the numbers.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best vacation rental website builder?
It depends on your setup. For one property, a rental-specific builder with calendar sync is the simplest. For a larger portfolio, a PMS suite with a built-in website and channel manager makes more sense.
Can I use Wix or Squarespace for a vacation rental website?
Yes. They give you full design freedom, but you have to add the booking system and the calendar sync with Airbnb and Booking.com yourself. Check that the add-ons you choose can import iCal calendars.
Do vacation rental website builders charge commission?
Some do. Certain PMS plans add a percentage fee on each direct booking on top of the subscription. Others, including Direct Booking Page, charge a flat price and 0% commission. Always read the pricing model, not just the headline price.
Do I need a channel manager to have my own website?
Not for one or two properties. An iCal link keeps your site's availability in line with your platform calendars. A channel manager becomes worth it when you manage several properties across several platforms.
Is a Houfy listing the same as having my own website?
No. Houfy is a marketplace where your property is listed next to others. It can be a useful channel, but your own website runs on your own domain and shows only your property.
Take direct bookings on your own site. 0% commission.
Your rental website goes live in minutes. One flat price of $99 a year, and you keep every booking.
